The Antibiotic Vitamin

As we get closer to the time when Bird flu will be active in the community, it is important to learn all you can to come through it easily.

Deficiency in vitamin D may predispose people to infection.

This is why we employ the “Stoss” therapy (more recently known as the “loading dose”) at this time of year.

Psychotherapist in San Mateo, CA

For those of you who are in the need of the services of an excellent professional in this field, here is one.

Dr. Joe

Matt Keck is a Psychotherapist interning in private practice in San Mateo. Matt was raised in the Bay Area and understands well the special concerns and dynamics of this unique, fast-paced area. He is aware of the tremendous pressure placed on families and individuals financially, scholastically and interpersonally. As a result, he is able to identify with his clients and establish a trusting supportive relationship, which guides his work. As a therapist, Matt brings with him a wealth of knowledge and insight into mental health issues from both an academic and practical standpoint. He works collaboratively with each client to establish a plan that will restore balance and happiness to the client's life as efficiently as possible. Using only techniques that have been proven effective, Matt is able to journey with his clients to achieve the quality of life they want.

Matt is one of few therapists specializing in the treatment of Eating Disorders, and being male makes him even more of a rarity. Matt possesses specialized knowledge and training in Eating Disorders from Stanford University's Department of Psychiatry, where he contributed to ground breaking research into the prevention and intervention of disordered eating among adolescents. He knows how devastating the effects of an eating disorder can be on individuals and families and uses a comprehensive approach to treatment.

"Eating disorders are shrouded in shame and secrecy.", explains Matt. "The mortality rate of clients with eating disorders is frighteningly high, and it is an issue that requires professional help. The good news is that if disordered eating is caught early enough, the outlook is more positive, and chances are that an individual and their family can eventually return to a happy, balanced life."

Another area of specialization for Matt is Sports Psychology. As a member of the USA Junior National Rugby Team, he understands the intense psychological and physical demands placed on athletes and the importance of psychological well-being to performance. He works with athletes on a variety of issues that may be impeding optimal performance. Also, he works with coaches and teams regarding ways to encourage optimal performance and a positive team environment.

"The participation in athletics has a tremendously positive psychological effect." Matt believes. "However, athletes are not immune to psychological issues and when such concerns affect them one of the first areas in which it can be observed is their athletic performance." Matt strongly believes that an athlete working with a mental health professional can improve performance on and off the field.

Matt is now accepting new clients for his practice in San Mateo. He offers a free consultation for all clients. For more information about Matt and the services he offers please visit his website www.adaptpsych.com A new feature of the website is a section called "THE WAITING ROOM", an online mental health forum. In the forum, there is information about common mental health issues, treatment, advice, and support from others who have had similar difficulties. One can log on and share experiences with certain issues or learn more about what may be affecting them. Matt's hope is that the site becomes an online community where people can play an active role in promoting the well-being of each other.
