Menopausal Estrogen Use (text summary)
According to the Journal of the American Medical Association March 5, 2008 Pg. 1036, there are no risks or benefits to using estrogens or not three years after the Menopause.
A position paper on Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (the hormone specialists) says there is no reason why women shouldn’t take estrogens. January/February 2008.
It’s up to the women to decide what to do and it seems like how you feel about it and how it makes you feel is all that is important.

Is this no or little risk for just estrogen, or for the combination estrogen plus I forget what the name of the other hormone is... Thank you.
Dr. Joe,
This is good news on the Estrogen front for us menopausal women. I'd like to ask you to look up another subject that I heard about in the car coming home the other day. It was about too much Calcium and Alzheimer's Disease. It said that if you take any more calcium than the recommened doseage that it can line the brain (I'm fuzzy here) or something like that. I guess they said it could cause Lewie body Alzheimers? When you get the chance I'd like to hear more about this on one of your minutes. Thanks. KC
Karen Anne, It is for estrogen and progesterone.
There is great danger in adding estradiol! According to the Women's Health Inatative Study done over five years ago, This is what may precipitate or encourage cancer formation. Best to balance your hormones with use of Saliva Test!
DR Joe, shouldn't one ALWAYS add progesterone whether you are adding estrogen or not.
Dr. Joe-
What are your thoughts about sub-cutaneous pellet implants, including testosterone?
It depends on each persons situation.
